A Celebration of Women in Law

Several of our team were delighted to attend “A Celebration of Women in Law”, hosted by The Chief Executives’ Club at Queen’s University Belfast this week. Held in the beautiful Riddell Hall in Belfast, this event marked the tenth anniversary of the ‘First 100 Years’ project. Founded by Dana Denis-Smith, this project is dedicated to ensuring a strong and equal future for women in law.

Head of Matrimonial Clare Lenaghan said: “Many thanks to QUB for hosting an event that was both enjoyable and important, as we heard from distinguished guests including Rt Hon The Baroness Hale of Richmond DBE, the first female President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom; Lady Chief Justice The Right Honourable Siobhan Keegan DBE, the first woman to serve as Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland and Professor Aoife O’Donoghue, Professor of Law at Queen’s University Belfast and co-director of the Doing Feminist Legal Work Network and the Northern/Ireland Feminist Judgments project.

“At Millar McCall Wylie. we are proud of the diversity of our team and have a steadfast commitment to inspiring and supporting the next generation of talented lawyers. That means offering people from all genders and backgrounds the chance to experience a wide range of opportunities to work in law, to find the area they love most and to help them build a rewarding and successful career that allows them to fulfil their potential.

“We are a modern, progressive law firm and we’re very comfortable saying that we want to shake off the old stereotypical image of what it looks like to be a lawyer. This event was a real celebration of the progress that’s been made in the sector whilst rightly also addressing some of the challenges we still face. By working collectively with other firms and bodies we can continue to build solid opportunities for women in law.”

Recently qualified solicitor Rachel McCullough added: “This event was motivating and encouraging and it really highlighted how far women have come in the legal world. Moving into a firm like Millar McCall Wylie was refreshing with such a mixed team of supportive people. I hope there are more of these types of events to bring women in law together to share our experiences and achievements.”
